Background:

Family is very important to me. I am a mom, grandma and wife. I have lived in Houston since 1983 but I was born and raised in Baton Rouge. I received my Bachelor's degree and Masters in Business degree at Louisiana State University. I worked as a Banker in downtown Houston until 1991 when I chose to change my career to become an elementary school teacher. I entered the field of education and counseling at that time and never looked back. I taught for 5 years then transitioned to the work of school counseling finishing my Masters in Counseling in 1998. I graduated the PhD Counseling 'Psychology Program at the University of Houston in 2002. I then worked as a psychologist for Houston Independent School District. I interned at HISD and at Baylor's Blue Bird Clinic to learn about counseling and evaluating children and adolescents.

I formerly taught the Children's Counseling, Adolescent Counseling, Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, and Counseling in Schools courses at the University of Houston. I was formerly an adjunct faculty in the Educational Psychology Department.

Methodology

My Approach:

I use a Humanistic/Cognitive-Behavioral approach toward the treatment of interpersonal, educational, behavioral or attentional problems. I focus on individual strengths to maximize each child's potential. I believe that each and every child can learn and have success at developmental tasks. At times, children and parents need assistance to guide them along their way towards meeting their goals.

I believe in establishing a positive working relationship with my clients through a down to earth, flexible and earnest manner. I openly and non-judgmentally listen to my client's needs. My professional strengths include extensive training and my genuine desire to provide a supportive base for my clients.

I have extensive expertise and unique insight from my experience working with schools, children, teachers and parents. I understand the dynamics of school system and assisting children with academics and behavioral issues. I use psychoeducational testing to guide interventions specifically aimed at maximizing the child's learning and behavioral potential.
